FIRE INDUSTRY BULLETIN 2017-003
SCOPE
Revised fire sprinkler plan submittal requirements for contractors, engineers, and other
stakeholders.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this industry bulletin is to notify applicable stakeholders of the approved
revisions to Fresno Fire Department (FFD or Department) Policy No. 401.011, Fire
Sprinkler System Plan Specifications. This policy outlines minimum plan requirements
for all firms preparing fire sprinkler plans for review by the Department.
BACKGROUND
As noted in the California Fire Code (CFC), the fire code official has the authority to
formulate policies they deem necessary based upon local conditions related to plan
submittals for all systems, including fire sprinkler systems.
To attempt to minimize some of the most common errors found on plans, the
Department began requiring firms prepare fire sprinkler system submittals in
accordance with Department Policy No. 401.011 in October of 2016. It is the
Department’s intent to continue to help stakeholders reduce the number of plans that
have to be returned for errors or omissions, and to help reduce plan review times for all
plan submittals.
INFORMATION
Beginning October 1, 2017, all fire sprinkler plans submitted to the Department shall be
in accordance with the revised policy. Policy No. 401.011 (and all other Department
policies) can be found on the City’s website at the following address:

NOTE
This notice is effective September 1, 2017.
“To protect and put service above all else.”
