PRO.IECT PERFORMANCE PROVISIONS
The enfire amount of the Giant shall be expanded for eligible expenses of the Projmt, and
DO other purpose. The Project shall be conducted in conformance with all applicable
gov amental laws and regulations.
Upon completion of the Project, a final report shall be submitted to the District
documenting the completion of the Project, specifically accounting for: the expenditure of
moNes, attaching receipts for all monies expended, one set of prints with Deprives or digital
photos documenting the project. examples of all promotional materials documenting District
acknowledgment, and the total hours v ItmteerN by each participant. All materials purehaved
with the giant monies shell be used for the purposed described in the grad application only. The
recipient shall provide the District such additional information as may reasonably be requested in
regard to the Project and the expenditure of grant foods.
The District's participation is limited to paying of giant monies only. The District his not
mvestigatal the Project in any way, other than to determine its qualification for the Omar
Program.
The Applicant shall defend, indemnify, and had the District, its Dinxwm, officers,
employees, and volunteers harmless from and against any claims for personal injury, property
damage, wrongful death, economic loss, or asking of property or otherwise in my way related to
the grant or its Peebonmce of the Project. The Applicant shell submit a Qntificare of Insurance
designating the District as an additional insured in regard to this Project.

In 2005, Me City of Fresno's Pads S Recreation Department expanded to create a
Community Services Division becoming Parks, Recreslhon and Community Services.
In 2007, the department expanded again to create the After School DirWon
becoming Pada, Agar School, Recreation and Community Services (PARCS).
Community Services envisions a culture of excellence where people gat the beat
every day by creating community through people, palls and programs. Because the
Division drives to provide a variety of meaningful services and programs to Me
Fresno Community regardless of age, ability, gentler, race, odaMatbn, repigon and
soctoeconomic status, Me outreach Science Program we incomoraied into Mb
division. Fran a single U. S. Department of Education grant Mal funded Me Science
Mobile, Me Science program has gained financial Support, InMvWual recognition and
Me momentum W expand and incorporate scarcer Into local after achool programs,
family science nights, community outreach, neighborhood pada and hei fulldma
community science centers.
Through collsbora0ons with do Fracm Unified School District, Central Valley
Science Project and National Science Foundation, Me Science Program since 1884
has sought to create Inbmlal Naming environments giving students an opportunity
to padidicate in science and eduCabon wlMout the fear that traditionally turns
students away from science. Through the ScIance Mobile, the Community Science
Center Workshops at Granny and Dickey Parks and that oftensctepl programs,
needy 30,000 students and families ware able to participate in the programa science
adiviges last year. In addition, an independent evaluator classified these youths as
Primarily underserve i children of color and labeled Mom 'at flak ° The Science
Program ie commuted to helping all students increase Meir aptitude and love of
science; it encourages the pursuit of Me sciences as a career choice, thereby
avoiding academic failure and future involvement with the juvenilejustim system.
A 2008 survey showed that the Science Program received a 8096 approval doing by
parents, students and staff. As a result d the survey, in 2008 the mission of Me
Department grew to include roquesbd Life and Environmental Science (LES). In
January, 2008, LES began to use the Met on the Move recreational vehicle to
provide programming W undedservad youth In our community. The Met on the Move
is a result of the Cooperation between 0e Fresno MetropoWan Museum of Ad &
Science and PARCS. Besides the ebremenlbnatl venues. LES is raw its own
section delivering programming to the following: chlWren at Neighborhood Parks with
the Mel on Me Move: Ahwahnes Middle School; Lowell Elemenbry SO"; BEST
(Business, Education atm Service Training): geld trips W youth, adults and senior
citizens attending Me various crommunfty canters in Fresno and heading summer
Carlo programs. Connecting Me public to Meir environment stall by budding an
awareness of the natural work! around Mom. The IFS program gives children and
adults an opportunity to explore the natural resources we all where. Dtscovery Mil
lead to an understanding and eventually the protection of and stewardshlp of our
environmental resources and services. LES particiants explore local environments,
biological artifacts and live organisms in an up chose and nonthreatening fashion
through field tripe, activities and presentations. LES believes that our program *Ws

where youth are become detached from nature. The mission of Me LES Program Is
to deliver high quality edumibnal escoeriencas that allow children and adults an
opportunity M celebrate our natural worttl and its resources.
In 2010, Community Science and LES merged again in a collaarotive effort to
expand both programs, Both programa used to offer similar cenic slum and compete
with each other for programs and pertkApeMa. Manuel Hernandez and Sonya Form
collaborated In 2010 b batter Improve Me programa and cooperate with each other
for the benefit of Me participans and the Individual programa In this tough economy.
In 2010, Community Science worked with Fresno Undrea School Diond s
supplement Me science education of Fresno's youth. LES wse awarded $80,000 M
be dsbumidl over a aro and hag fiscal year cycles to fadktde service looming
Programs, canoe programs and activities In Me LES chommo n. Also In 2010, LES
was awarded $15,000 hurn Me San Joaquin River Conservancy (SDRC) to support
LES programa on Me San Joaquin River. LES has grown leaps and bounds rrow
with a fully functioning mobile scbnm unit, 8 canoes and a canoe biller. The SJRC
was pleaeed with Me program Chet LES provided to Me public and awarded the
$15,000 grant for 2011.
In 2011, Community Science will continue suWlememing schcol aclence Programs
through shad visitations, In dose programs and Family Science Nights.
Community Science will also continue to sere Me community with the Mobile
Science Workshop and MET on the hove manes mobile. In 2011, LES Is facing
challenges with Me added grovAh of the LES Program and reduction in PARCS, LES
has more challenges to overcome b be able to provide these services and fuMll the
grant requirements. One of Me main needs Is equipment to meet standards and
provide adequate safety and comfort during program participation.
The Neighborhood Perks program began waking with Informal science program in
Me mid 1980'5 providing students the opportunity to loam about science In a fun and
informal environment, where participants looked forward b participetirg in Mase
educational activities. Looming and emoting sok place in our community centers,
perks, summer camps, hstivas and tripe to places Ib Yosema National Park or a
simple nonce Mp to Me San Joaquin River. In 2008, Lie and Environmental Science
Program further became a part of our parka program providing additional education
at similar types of sites and programs.

The Neighborhood Perks Summer Camps will participate in Me LES Canoe and
Service Leeming Programa. Our pedklPen s in Me Summer Camp will spend eight
days with LES during our Summer 2011 Summer Camp Program enjoying adN
like canoeing, maturation projecls, Patrick Bryan's Presentation, Applying Sksm
Orcin Decals and other assorted MdV% a looming about our local watershed. In Me
Pat Five yearn our camp participants have taken ped in many LES FMFCD fundetl
Programs. Due to budget cubs and a tough economy our PARCS programs am
colls long to continue to provide our participants the experiences without cuMrg
Wmgmms, staff or number of participants.
The youth who padicipate in these camps live In various Made of our city. For many,
a Mia to the river's unheard of, coming from disadvantaged, low income homes.
Padlcpamts will be given journals to record what they sea all loam and Participate
in an Edible Aquifer and arta related activity. A t -shirt will fuller be given to all the
youth who pehticipate; a remembrance of what May have dors and tamed, as well
as a way to further promote the program. Addtlionally, the youth participate in
informal science disease, as well as aafb, aporia, games, cooking, computer
science and field Mps to places like Santa Cruz. For many this is a fist tkne vied to
Me ocean.

Storm Water Quality Irdormallon and Education — Through the educational
camponenl, students will become voices for the 'Protect Your Water, It's Just
Beneath Your Feet' message. This will increase awareness of household and
mulardous chemicals that impact the quality of our water supply, the sources and
movement of these materials, methods of prevention and We Importance of water to
people and vddde. In adtliton, participants will use FMFCD decals instead of to
steal W mark storm drain inlets as no dumping sites.
Household Hesardous Waste Information and Educaton — Using Landform and
Ground Water Flow Model's (GFM) cats model building acliviliss, students will Team
about the types of contaminants, their proper disposal and Weal preveidion methods
far dealing with toxic substsnces. Patrick Bryan will be presenting at our summer
camp as In years Pest to present on Nese topica.
Environmental Resloratlon- Participants will be participating in matombon projects,
other conservator and service learning programs throughout the San Joaquin Valley
and the Sen Joaquin RNer Watershed. Par idpa ds will work on service leaming
projects participating in riparian clean up, restoration and ramwal of nonnet re plant
species along the San Joaquin River.
Emelronmental Aaswmant — Participants will team about Marcom"alebrstes and
determine t We Sen Joaquin River be capable of sustaining Salmon population
through a study of Mawlnvertebreks, We need for water cenasrmbon far the
sustainability of the San Joaquin River. Program Participants will have an
opportunity to barn about our local watershed through tun hands on activities.
Participants will loam to identify and map We gore and feune that estate in the
riparian cenidor of the San Joaquin River. Participants will loam to canoe, proper
paddling lechnquae, how to use binoculars, field guides, GPS units and keep proper
fiats journals. Identify and mmo re invasive specks and native spacers.
Recreation—Participants enjoy canoeing for fun. Races, swim time, paddle about,
games and actwites affen highlight the participants experience on the San Joaquin
River.

River from Milterton Lake M Highway 99. Through the experiences parbapanb will

experience of conservation, education and recreation the Think Globally, Act
LoaW philosophy will be celebrated and through the educational components,
participants will bemma voices for the `PmWd Your Water, It's Just Beneath Your

PARCS ls struggling in the tough economy at meet program needs. The Program
managers, Lindsey Miler and CIM Comments will purchase the remaining supplies

Training.

LES staff Nationalist attended Me Watershed Institute in July 2005, hostel by Fresrro
County Office of Education's Scout Island stat. Staff ciao atlanded a presentation
on water conservation wind demonstrations on water pollution prevention and use of
the GFM in 2007 and 2005. This was prevented by the Fresno lis"" )tan Flood
Control District Watar Resource Educator, Patrols Bryan. In November 2007, May
2005 and October 2010 staff also attended! a Pmjact Aquate WIid and Project
Learning Trans belnirg hosted at Scout Island by CSU -Fresno School of Education.
The LES Nominee, Sonya Force, will thin staff in Me use of hands-on acnfi ies in
spring of 2011. These achvMes will explore water resources, natural history, ecology,
mortification of wldiffs and flak lournalinlp. The project manager will compile all
supplemental m ntenes for the training. She will also oder and purchase materials
for the program. Students are from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. Thea
students must uphold a standard of behavior and regular PeMctpation in the LES
phgmm.

if they em eppropnete for the youth we are serving.
LES also surveys participants for evaluation of Me programs for intemal and grant
reporting purposes. LES provides Fresno's underserved with experiencas that
