APPLICATION This policy applies to contractors requesting a safe to occupy inspection of a fire sprinkler system. OPERATIONAL POLICY As noted in the California Fire Code (CFC), the fire code official has the authority to formulate policies they deem necessary based upon local conditions related to fire sprinkler systems, including their installation, testing and maintenance. REQUIREMENTS Based upon the need for uniformity in application across the Fresno Fire Department’s (FFD or Department) diverse service delivery area, and after careful deliberation, the Department has determined that a request for a “safe to occupy” approval from FFD, requires the following conditions to be met: 1. All safe to stock requirements have been met (see FFD Policy No. 406.004). 2. All required fire lanes are marked. 3. All exit signs and emergency lighting inspections have been approved. 4. All interior finish materials are flame-retardant treated (if applicable). Section 406.005 Page 2 of 2 5. Occupant load signs are posted (if applicable). 6. Fire sprinkler monitoring permit or fire alarm system permit has been approved (if fire alarm permit has not been approved, the system must be operational with only minor issues pending). 7. Permanent address signs are installed on the building. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE This section intentionally left blank. PROCESS This section intentionally left blank.
