Garcia, Engineer Review Level: 3 Administrative Support: Leslie Oulashian, Management Analyst II Section 303.016 Page 1 of 5 PURPOSE The purpose of this procedure is to provide Fresno Fire Department (FFD or Department) members information and operational procedures on the Darley 1.5 AGE auxiliary pump and 24 HP Kubota D902 diesel motor on the 2020 BME Brush Engine Apparatus. APPLICATION FFD Brush Engines are equipped with the Darley 1.5 AGE auxiliary pump and 24 HP Kubota D902 diesel motor. OPERATIONAL POLICY The Darley 1.5 AGE auxiliary pump shall not be used for hose testing. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE All diesel engines should be throttled back by the operator in high load situations to prevent over-fueling the engine which is evidenced by black exhaust smoke. Careful readjustment of the throttle will not decrease pump performance. Throttle back until the pump performance begins to decrease. Over-fueling the engine will cause dilution of the engine oil with diesel fuel and premature wear on the cylinder walls and bearings. PROCESS The control system consists of a “MAIN” panel and a “REMOTE” panel. The “MAIN” panel is wired directly to the engine, the throttle actuator device, and the pressure sensor. Engine control and monitoring is managed by the “MAIN” panel. The Section 303.016 Page 2 of 5 “REMOTE” panel communicates with the “MAIN” panel to exchange information and manage control instructions. Once the system is powered up, the operator can ”START” the engine, “STOP” the engine, and control the throttle seamlessly from either panel. 1. Throttle Mode: a. “Manual” throttle mode uses a hare/turtle switch to adjust the engine speed. Figure 1 2. Auxiliary Pump Operation: a. Stationary Pumping: i. Apply the parking brake. ii. Place the transmission in neutral. iii. Exit the cab. iv. Chock the apparatus. v. Open the red “AUTO KILL” cover and flip the toggle. (See Figure 1.) Section 303.016 Page 3 of 5 vi. Power the system “ON”. There is a 10-second pre-heat period. vii. Activate the priming pump. viii. Push button engine start/stop from either station. ix. Throttle increase/decrease from either station. x. “AUTO KILL” over-ride switches for run to fail operation. NOTE: Auto Kill switch is a low pressure over ride for starting the pump with no pressure. It also shuts the pump down when low/no pressure is in the pump. b. Shut down: i. Throttle down to idle. ii. Push the engine “STOP” button from either station. c. Pump and roll: i. Open the red “AUTO KILL” cover and flip the toggle. (See Figure 1.) ii. Activate the priming pump as necessary. iii. Push the engine “START” button. iv. Throttle increase/decrease from in-cab control panel. v. Place road transmission in low gear and drive. NOTE: Auto Kill switch is a low pressure over ride for starting the pump with no pressure. It also shuts the pump down when low/no pressure is in the pump. d. Shut down: i. Throttle down to idle. ii. Push engine “STOP” button. Section 303.016 Page 4 of 5 INFORMATION The 1.5 AGE 24k with Digitrol Panel is a high-pressure, low-volume, gear-driven pump mounted to the Kubota D902 Diesel 24 HP, liquid-cooled, 12-volt starter, 40- amp alternator, with fuel and oil pump filters. The 1.5 AGE is plumbed to the main fuel tank of the engine. The auxiliary pump is not attached to the driveshaft or transmission; therefore the engine and road speed will not affect the pump speed or water pressure. The auxiliary pump is plumbed into the foam manifold and only supplies water to the foam discharges. 1.
