APPLICATION Infection control bags are carried on all squads, engines, trucks, and reserve apparatus and used when infection control personal protective equipment (PPE) is appropriate. OPERATIONAL POLICY The infection control bag is used when providing EMT services and shall be inventoried during completion of the Administrative Manual, Section 106.029 Emergency Equipment Weekly Inspection Report (FD-11). OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE Medical items used on a call should be restocked from the on-scene ambulance. If an item is used and not restocked because of extenuating circumstances, it should be restocked on the next call. If unable to restock an item from an on-scene ambulance, contact supply and/or the Designated Infection Control Officer (DICO). The biohazard bags should be used for disposal of used infection control PPE on scene. Members should tie the top and place the bio-hazard bag in a designated compartment of the apparatus. The bio-hazard bag should be disposed of within the guidelines covered in the Standard Operating Procedures Manual, Section 203.010(f), Post Response.
