APPLICATION All officers and acting officers are to utilize this procedure as a guideline for the allowance of sleep during shift work. All members are to familiarize themselves with the guidelines provided in this procedure. OPERATIONAL POLICY This section intentionally left blank . OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE Members are allowed to retire after 2000 hours and should arise no later than 0700 hours, except as provided elsewhere in these procedures. Sleeping on duty should be permitted only in beds. Members on duty should not retire in any portion of the day uniform or dress uniform but must be in sleeping attire as described in the Standard Operating Procedures Manual, Section 205.003 Physical Fitness/Sleepwear Uniform . Members occupying beds in quarters at the proper time should not be unnecessarily disturbed. Members desiring to occupy a bed in a fire station, while not on regular duty, should first receive permission from the respective on-duty battalion chief. • If in the opinion of the company officer or battalion chief, the presence of the off -duty member could have any adverse effect on the operations of the fire station or delivery of services the permission could be denied. Any member on duty suffering from fatigue caused by extraordinary service or circumstances may, with the express permission of his/her battalion chief, retire at any time when, in the opinion of the company officer, conditions of the member and requirements of the service justify it.
