APPLICATION This procedure is provided to guide all members as well as officers and acting officers on the guidelines for personnel expectations and management. OPERATIONAL POLICY Relief from duty of members will not be permitted earlier than one hour before the scheduled start time. If a member fails to report for duty (0800 hours) on the oncoming platoon, the company will immediately notify the battalion chief who may, after considering the on-duty strength of the platoon, request a member of the off-going platoon be selected to remain on duty until such tardy member reports for duty or other arrangements are made. Privately-owned automobiles will not be permitted in quarters except by permission of a chief officer. Mechanical work of any kind by members on privately-owned automobiles is prohibited. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE Members should, before leaving to go off duty, acquaint their successor with every detail of their tour of duty, give them the keys or equipment needed, and supply such information as may be necessary for the efficiency and benefit of the Department. Section 206.001e Page 2 of 3 The company officer should ensure, before relief is granted, the member relieving is a proper relief, has changed from civilian clothes to proper uniform, and is in a fit condition to go on duty. Company members should be relieved by members of equal rank or, if the member of equal rank will not be present at change of platoon, by the member who is assigned to perform those duties on that date. Personnel reporting to duty, with the company expected to be out of quarters for greater than 30 minutes of time, should make contact with an on-duty battalion chief for direction. Washing and polishing privately-owned cars is permissible between the hours of 1800 and 0800, with the permission of the company officer. Vehicles should be washed in an area out of public view if such an area exists at the station. Members are to use their own resources to wash personal vehicles. Vehicles and other items under the control of Department members should not display a “For Sale” sign in the vicinity of any Department facility. Members should prevent their personal mail from passing through channels by giving notice to the post officer and others concerned of any change in their mailing address. Personal mail received at Headquarters, consigned to members at other stations, is to be readdressed and forwarded immediately. Members should be assigned only one locker or closet at the station to which they are permanently assigned. Members working at a station where they are not permanently assigned (i.e., Vacation Relief, AWR, or OT) should use only one locker or closet during the duration of their assignment and should remove all personal and Department issued property when the assignment has ended. Company officers should ensure members do not use more than one locker or closet, as provided below. Members should keep all wearing apparel and other personal belongings, when not in use, in a locker or closet provided for this purpose. Said locker or closet is to be kept in a clean condition at all times, and the doors closed when not in immediate use. Section 206.001e Page 3 of 3 PROCESS This section intentionally left blank.
