SECTION 206.001d STATION SECURITY
PURPOSE
To establish the standard practices for station security for Fresno Fire Department
(FFD or Department).
APPLICATION
All personnel entering and occupying a fire department facility are expected to
maintain station security as defined in this procedure.
OPERATIONAL POLICY
This section intentionally left blank .
OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE
Company officers are responsible to maintain security of their respective fire stations
from unauthorized entry.
Station offices should be maintained, as necessary, to provide service to the public,
permit deliveries, and allow entry of authorized individuals.
Officers have the authority to prohibit the entrance of any person or cause any person
to leave quarters when, in the opinion of the officer, such an act is in the best interest
of the Department.
Stations should be maintained so that at no time when the company is in quarters
there is no possibility for anyone to enter without the knowledge of a member of the
company.
Doors and gates to quarters, as far as practicable, should be kept locked.
• All members are assigned a personal Best lock, C -8 key, which may be used
to gain entry to any fire station (see Standard Operating Procedures Manual ,
Section 206.007, Fire Station Keys).

Visitors or strangers who enter quarters should be respectfully approached and the
nature of their business ascertained. The company officer should be summoned
immediately if information is desired or conditions arise that cannot be properly
corrected.
Personal visitors should be limited to reasonable hours. Visitors should not be allowed
in the dorm or locker room area of the stations. Any exceptions are to be cleared by
a battalion chief. Station tours would be an exception.
The company officer should be notified when mechanics or repair persons enter
quarters, or when gasoline or supplies are presented for delivery. Company officers
should sign receipts for deliveries.
Members at stations with parking lot fences equipped with gates should close and lock
gates from 2000 hours to 0600 hours.
