troubleshooting of the Kenwood TK-5730 mobile radio.
APPLICATION
The Kenwood TK-5730 is programmed similar to the TK-5710 and TK-790 with one
exception, the TK-5730 has a zone programmed with VOTE SCAN capabilities. The
Kenwood TK-5730 portable radio is primarily used with BC and Command Staff
Vehicles. Features of the radio include:
128 channels.
Alpha-numeric display.
50 watts power output.
32 repeater tones available.
One (1) direct access channel button (home channel).
The 128 channels are divided into groups designed by the Communications Team to
meet the Department needs.
The radio is capable of selecting one of the 32 Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch
System (CTCSS) for accessing different repeaters.

Vote Scan Capabilities
1. Zone 1 – FFD Home (VOTE SCAN capabilities):
Within this zone, all menu functions are lost (i.e., Scan, Add/Delete channels
in a scan group, Command channel, OST function). Members will see the
channels which are enabled with VOTE SCAN as they will toggle back and
forth between duplex and simplex. For example, Fire 1 will flash between
Fire 1(duplex) and Vote 1(simplex) depending on which frequency is stronger.
2. Zone 2 - State Wide:
These are all of the major state agencies (i.e., Cal Fire Units).
3. Zone 3 - USFS:
This is the United States Forest Service Net.
4. Zone 4 - FFD Home:
This is the same as Zone 1, with the exception of VOTE SCAN.
Note: Within this zone, members will not have VOTE SCAN. This is
the zone to scan and/or build a command group.
Operator Selectable Tone (OST)
1. Press the square key (item “i” in the diagram) for two seconds and the
screen will appear showing the available tones.
2. Use the Channel Up / Down (item “e” in the diagram) to toggle
between the tones.
3. Once the desired tone has been highlighted, key up the mic to select
the tone and save it.
Note: The tones programmed into the radio do not coincide with the
current 32 tones identified by FIRESCOPE of California.
Members will need to know the tone number. Example, Tone 1
is 110.9 Hz. However, the first tone on the TK-5730 is 67.0 Hz.
The following is a list of the current tones. This will be fixed in
the future.
