HomeMy WebLinkAbout202.002 - Residential-Commercial Fire Alarm Response Fresno City Fire Department 200 Standard Operating Procedures Manual SECTION 202.002 RESIDENTIAL/COMMERCIAL FIRE ALARM RESPONSE PURPOSE To establish a safe and effective response to fire alarm notifications at residential, multifamily, commercial and industrial structures for Fresno Fire Department (FFD or Department. APPLICATION All operational units responding to fire alarm notifications are to apply to the following procedures. OPERATIONAL POLICY Units dispatched to a fire alarm are directed to respond Code-3 until arrival or until it is determined an emergency does not exist. Personnel shall wear structure fire PPE to these incidents. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE The objective is to investigate and mitigate the cause of the alarm. Ensure alarm system is restored to full function prior to clearing scene. PROCESS 1. Typical Residential Response: a. One engine or truck responds Code-3. b. If additional information is obtained indicating the alarm is due to an actual fire, the balance of the alarm is to be dispatched. Effective Date: May 2019 Devin McGuire, Battalion Chief Current Revision Date: 05/19/2022 Section 202.002 Next Revision (2) Date: 05/19/2025 Page 1 of 3 c.If additional information is obtained indicating the alarm is reset with no fire through confirmation froma responsible party on scene, the responding unit may cancel. 2.Typical Commercial Response: a.One engine or truck responds Code-3. b.If additional information is obtained indicating the alarm is due to an actual fire, the balance of the alarm is to be dispatched. c.Upon notification of a reset of the alarm, the responding unit is to reduce to Code-2 to investigate. d.Upon notification from an alarm company of a system reset and confirmation from a responsible party on scene that the alarm was due to a non-fire related issue, responding units may cancel. 3.On Scene Responsibilities (Residential & Commercial): a.Upon arrival the first in company officer is to assume command and take the following actions: Assess the alarm system to determine the nature of the alarm. If necessary, request sufficient resources to mitigate the incident. Ensure property owner or responsible party resets the alarm system when appropriate to do so. 4.NFIRS Reporting: a.Upon completion of the incident, all pertinent information regarding the activation of the alarm system is to be documented in the NFIRS report. b.Only unintentional or malfunctioning alarms are to be reported as false alarms.
