HomeMy WebLinkAbout203.011 - Health and Wellness Committee Fresno City Fire Department 200 Standard Operating Procedures Manual SECTION 203.011 HEALTH AND WELLNESS COMMITTEE PURPOSE The purpose of this policy is to institute guidelines for the organization and responsibilities of the Fresno Fire Department’s (FFD or Department) Health and Wellness Committee. APPLICATION This policy is to be used to select members for, and the maintenance of, the Health and Wellness Committee. It may also serve as a guide in making decisions for physical fitness and health related programs. OPERATIONAL POLICY This section intentionally left blank. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE The Health and Wellness Committee will attempt to meet annually, or as needed when working on special projects. A battalion chief is assigned as chairperson by the Operation Division’s Deputy Chief. The committee’s primary responsibilities are to determine fitness equipment needs and purchases, and coordinate health and fitness education, which may be provided by outside companies. The committee should be made up of the following positions and responsibilities: a. Chairperson; battalion chief. b. Health and Wellness Officer; staff captain. c. Secretary; member from Suppression. d. Education and Training; member from Suppression or Training. e. Equipment Officer; member from Suppression. f. Support; members from Suppression. Vision To create a culture where illness, injuries, and time loss are reduced or eliminated, and fitness and overall health are a top priority for all members. PROCESS Health and Wellness Committee Tasks: • Meet as needed to address wellness and health issues. • Evaluate the quality and usefulness of fitness equipment. • Research new trends in health and fitness. • Determine fitness equipment needs and establish a budget to submit to the Fire Chief annually. • Establish subcommittees as necessary. • Research and purchase equipment and meet with vendors as necessary. • Provide recommendations to the Fire Chief, or designee, when tasked to do so. • Coordinate with the Safety Committee to ensure the two groups work collaboratively to reduce preventable injuries. • Coordinate education, health monitoring, and other activities with outside fitness companies through the Health and Wellness Officer.
