Johnson, Senior Administrative Clerk Section 301.011 Page 1 of 2 PURPOSE The purpose of this policy is to provide guidelines for general use, repair and maintenance of hose APPLICATION This policy applies to Fresno Fire Department (FFD or Department) hose. OPERATIONAL POLICY This section left intentionally blank. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE 1. Check the couplings for damage when loading hose. 2. Maintain an accurate record of the hose load carried on individual apparatus at all times. Any time hose is changed, rearranged or rotated, enter the update in the Apparatus Primary Inventory (API) located in the Apparatus Information Book. 3. Care should be exercised in disconnecting hose lines inside buildings to ensure water damage is kept to an absolute minimum. 4. Maintain hose carried on apparatus clean, securely coupled and orderly in arrangement. 5. After emergencies and drills, serviceable hose should be replaced on apparatus in readiness for immediate use. Section 301.011 Page 2 of 2 6. Check the hose gaskets and replace the damaged or deteriorated gaskets. 7. Wash dirty hose, suctions, and bypasses with cold water. No other cleaning agent should be used for this purpose. 8. Send hose that is badly contaminated with oil, tar, or other foreign material to Station No. 14. 9. After using foam solutions in hose, flush with clear water until foam is removed. 10. Roll and rack hose extra that has been cleaned and dried at the station. 11. Attach an Administrative Manual, Section 106.048, Wired Repair Tag (FD-37) describing the damage.to hose sent to Station No. 14 for repairs or replacement after it has been cleaned, dried, and rolled with the male coupling inside. 12. Repairs to hose are performed at Station No. 14, where proper tools are available. Do not attempt hose repairs at other locations. 13. The use of oil on hose threads and swivels is prohibited.
