HomeMy WebLinkAbout204.002f - Responding to Lift Assist RequestsSection 204.002f Page 1 of 2 STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES MANUAL COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM 204.002f RESPONDING TO LIFT ASSIST REQUESTS EFFECTIVE: JANUARY 2019 Current Revision Date: 12/21/20 Next Revision Date: 12/21/23 Author’s Name/Rank: Robert Camp, Fire Battalion Chief Review Level: 1 Administrative Support: Evelyn Yin-Zepeda, Management Analyst II PURPOSE The purpose of this policy is to provide all members and Communications Center personnel with guidelines related to the dispatch of Fresno Fire Department (FFD or Department) resources when assisting American Ambulance with lifting a patient in pre-hospital settings. APPLICATION This procedure is to be applied when determining the dispatch of FFD resources. OPERATIONAL POLICY This section intentionally left blank. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE It is the Department’s practice to use standardized response procedures in a manner which will effectively and efficiently utilize resources for emergent and non -emergent situations. PROCESS The following procedure is to be used by the Communications Center when dispatching FFD units for requests to assist American Ambulance with lifting a patient in pre-hospital settings: STAT Patient • Dispatch the closest resource (Fire or EMS) to assist. Section 204.002f Page 2 of 2 Special Equipment/Skills • Dispatch the appropriate Fire resource or resources. Non-STAT Patient • Dispatch a Fire resource if: o The next closest ambulance has an estimated response time of greater than 10 minutes. o The original assisting ambulance is diverted during response. o If EMS levels are at 2 or below. Note: If the FFD resource has an estimated response time of greater than 10 minutes, but is still closer than the responding ambulance, the FFD resource is to be dispatched. Special Circumstances • Contact the on-duty Battalion Chief with a description of the lift assist request and follow their direction. INFORMATION This section intentionally left blank. DEFINITIONS 1. STAT Patient: Patient to be transported without delay (not necessarily Code 3). STAT patients and patients that require Code 3 transport are different. There are STAT patients that should be transported immediately but without lights and sirens. A patient unconscious from a head injury, for example, should leave the scene STAT, but may be transported Code 2, unless the patient is deteriorating . 2. EMS Levels: Levels monitored by the Communications center and defined by available ALS ambulances. Level 2 would be the equivalent of two available ambulances.
