PURPOSE
Promote training and assist in measuring fire ground effectiveness of crews
advancing high rise hose bundles from standpipes.
APPLICATION
2” High-rise hose with smooth bore nozzles allow companies to effectively utilize
standpipe systems for fire suppression efforts.
OPERATIONAL POLICY
A “hallway stretch” will not be used if the fire floor hallway has been compromised by
smoke or fire.
OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE
High-rise hose and smooth bore nozzles should be used when connecting to
standpipe systems.
PROCESS
Time begins when air break on apparatus has been set and ends when fire attack
crew is ready to make entry. Record time for statistical review.
An equipment drop, consiting of collecting and organizing high-rise hose and
equipment is established prior to ascending the stairwell to attack a fire in a
standpipe equipped, multi-story building.
Assign fire attack crews to attack line (yellow) and 2-out line (red).

A decision to deploy a “stairwell strech” or a “hallway stretch” is based on
reconnaissance of the fire conditions.
Equipment Needed: Three companies with members in full PPE, including SCBA.
A standpipe equipped structure with a stairway.
Task: Use high-rise hose/equipment to deploy a stairwell strech.
Performance Outcome: 150’ of 2” high-rise hose deployed in stairwell to simulated
fire floor.
Company Directive: Set up for a high-rise fire. Perform an equipment drop, assign
fire attack personnel to “attack line” (yellow) and “2-out line” (red) and gather
appropriate hose, equipment, and lobby information. Proceed to the floor below the
