SECTION 316.036 OPERATE A ROTARY SAW
PURPOSE
Rotary saws are essential tools in fire ground operations used for ventilation, rescue,
or as a forcible entry tool.
APPLICATION
Individual Performance Evolutions (IPEs) are used to document skill level
performance.
OPERATIONAL POLICY
This section intentionally left blank.
OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE
Active members should perform (IPEs) without any failures in task steps.
PROCESS
Equipment Needed:
One candidate in full personal protective equipment, one truck with a full complement
of hose and equipment, and work area free of combustibles.
Task:
Preform the weekly check of the rotary saw, change the blades, and operate the saw
to perform forcible entry.
Performance Outcome:
The member should be able to locate a rotary saw from the apparatus, perform the
weekly safety check, remove, and replace the blades, operate the saw for forcible
entry, and return the saw to service.

Candidate Directive:
Perform the daily checks of the rotary saw and demonstrate how to change the blades.
Operate the saw to complete the task given.
Critical Errors:
If the member performs any of the following errors, the evolution is terminated, as it
would be a failure of the current test attempt.
Perform an unsafe act which could result in injury to himself/herself or
the public.
Perform an act which did or could have damaged equipment.
