SECTION 502.004 TOOL AND EQUIPMENT SAFETY
PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to implement proper use of tool and equipment safety
while in the academy.
APPLICATION
This section applies to the use of various hand and power tools which will be used
during the trainee academy.
OPERATIONAL POLICY
Equipment shall not be operated without the proper approved safeguards.
Safeguards will not be removed without supervisor’s approval. Instruction on the
proper use of Fresno Fire Department (FFD or Department) apparatus and
equipment is found in Target Solutions Learning Management System (LMS). All
personnel shall adhere to safety guidelines in the Department’s Standard
Operating Procedures Manual, Section 203.001, General Safety Guidelines,
Section 203.007, Injury and Illness Prevention Program and Training and
Equipment Manual, Section 308.006, Receptacle Circuit Tester.
OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE
• Use tools and equipment for their intended uses only.
• Alteration or makeshift additions to tools or equipment are
forbidden.
• Always use the proper eye protection when working with drills,
saws, welding equipment, and other tools likely to cause eye
injuries.
• Ground fault interrupters (GFI) are to be used anytime electricity is
used in or around water.
• Only authorized personnel are allowed to perform repairs on
electrical equipment.
