APPLICATION This procedure is to be applied by all personnel delivering water into hose lines. OPERATIONAL POLICY Incident Commanders shall be notified if pump pressures exceed 275 psi. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE Pump operators should use the established pump discharge pressures for the identified hose deployment and nozzle configurations listed in this guide. Although increasing PDP until flow meter(s) read the appropriate GPM is generally acceptable, the following charts shall give guidance if flow meter accuracy is in question. • The pump on quints should be used whenever possible. Note: PDP assumes full nozzle elevation at 100’. As necessary, subtract 5 psi per estimated 10 feet of nozzle elevation below 100’ when aerial is not at the highest extension and / or angle of elevation. Sprinkler Systems • Attempt to maintain 150 psi at all times. Section 303.005 Page 10 of 15 Exception: o Super Block: West side of Van Ness, between Fresno and Tulare. o Super Block FDC’s must be pumped at a maximum of 75 PSI if the system’s fire pump is operating. If the system’s fire pump is not operating and sprinklers are flowing, lock-out / tag-out the pump electric power source and pump the FDC at 150 PSI. • Five-inch hose is always preferable.
