RESOLUTION NO. 96-339
A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FRESNO CALIFORNIA, INITIATING AMENDMENTS TO THE
TEXT OF THE FRESNO MUNICIPAL CODE
1. Pursuant to Section 12-402 of the Municipal Code, the Council hereby
initiates proposed amendments to the text of the Municipal Code, substantially in the
form attached to this Resolution as an Exhibit, relating to the definition of Household
Pets and the standards for maintaining such pets.
2. The purpose of the text amendment is to allow Potbellied Pigs, as
defined and as subject to certain restrictions, to be kept as household pets.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF FRESNO, CALIFORNIA,
AMENDING SUBSECTION 12 OF SECTION 12-105H OF THE
FRESNO MUNICIPAL CODE, RELATING TO ADDING POTBELLIED
PIGS TO THE LIST OF ALLOWABLE HOUSEHOLD PETS
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRESNO DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: Section 12-105H of the Fresno Municipal Code is amended to read:
SECTION 12-105. SPECIFIC DEFINITIONS
H. 12. HOUSEHOLD PETS shall mean animals, birds, or fowl
ordinarily permitted in a dwelling and kept only for the
company or pleasurerovided to the occupants, not being

kept or raised for food, eggs milk hides fur, fiber, or
feathers. Household pets shall not include horses, cows,
goats, sheep, or other equine, bovine, ovine, or ruminant
animals;; predatory wild animals: chickens ducks `geese
turkeys, game birds and fowl which normally constitute an
agricultural use (except that Muscovy ducks or other muted
ducks shall be deemed household pets); or pigs (except for
Potbellied Pigs, Sus scrofa vittatus, which shall be deemed
household pets with the following restrictions: in single-
family residential dwelling units, a maximum of two
