A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF.FRESNO PLACING
THE JOHN HUNHSTON HOME,LOCATED AT 229 NORTH YOSEMITE ON
THE LOCAL OFFICIAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC RESOURCES
WHEREAS,the John Humiston Home, located at 229 North Yosemite,was constructed circa 1905; and
WHEREAS,the residence represents an architecturally important idiosyncratic example of the Vernacular
Cottage style; and
WHEREAS,the home contributes to the broader context of properties situated within the proposed North
Park Historic District; and
WHEREAS,the home is associated with notable local personages including George Pickford, Jesse Clayton
Forkner and Claude M. Thompson; and
WHEREAS,on July 22, 1996,the Historic Preservation Commission held a public hearing on the proposed
designationwherein testimony, staff recommendations and other evidence was considered; and
WHEREAS,based on the presentation of facts relating to the criteria for official designation, as set forth in
Fresno Municipal Code,Article 4, Section 13-407,the structure has been evaluated and determined to have historic
significance.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,that the Council for the City of Fresno hereby designates the
John Humiston Home, located at 229 North Yosemite,to the Local Official Register of Historic Resources.
