SECTION 318.009 LUCAS CPR DEVICE
PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to provide information to Fresno Fire Department
Members (FFD or Department) on the use of the LUCAS 3 CPR Device.
APPLICATION
This policy covers the use of the LUCAS 3, which is carried on selected engines,
trucks, and squads. This device is used to assist with cardiac arrest patients.
OPERATIONAL POLICY
LUCAS 3 CPR devices are used when providing emergency medical BLS services
and shall be checked for operational status daily and during completion of the weekly
equipment check as defined in Standard Operating Procedures Manual, Section
211.001, PSTrax.
OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE
Members should use the LUCAS 3 in accordance with CCEMSA policy 510.08
Cardiac Arrest - Medical Adult.
PROCESS
For the use of the device, refer to LUCAS 3 Inservice Video.
INFORMATION
The LUCAS 3 will remain plugged in for charging while on the apparatus to always
ensure it is always fully charged. This will also allow the device to automatically
download event reports when within WIFI range of the stations. The second battery
will remain in the charging dock in the apparatus.

When the device is removed at the hospital, the back plate may be swapped out with
the hospital’s back plate to ensure quicker change over, minimizing delays in getting
back into service. *Do not leave the hospital without the LUCAS, ensuring all
components of the device are intact and accounted for.
