SECTION 316.032 OPERATE VEHICLE EXTRICATION EQUIPMENT
PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to provide Fresno Fire Department (FFD or Department)
members instruction in the use of auto extrication equipment.
APPLICATION
Individual Performance Evolutions (IPEs) are used to document skill level
performance.
OPERATIONAL POLICY

OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE
Active Members should perform IPEs without any failures in task steps.
PROCESS
1. Equipment Needed:
a. One firefighter in full personal protective equipment.
b. One truck with a full complement of hose and equipment.
c. One power unit with hydraulic lines.
d. One hydraulic spreader, cutting tool, ram tool and hand pump
power unit.
2. Performance Outcome:
a. Perform a weekly check on the extrication equipment and operate
each unit appropriately.

3. Candidate Directives:
a. Locate and remove the extrication equipment and perform a
weekly check, including operating all the tools appropriately.
4. Critical Errors:
a. If the candidate performs any of the following errors, the
examination is terminated as it would be a failure of the current
test attempt.
i. Performed an unsafe act that could have resulted in
injury to themselves, FFD or the public.
ii. Perform an act which did or could have damaged
equipment.

7. Operate power unit with the throttle in the fast position.

readiness.
