SECTION 316.025 OPERATE A GENERATOR
AND ELECTRICAL ACCESSORIES (IPE)
PURPOSE
Fire ground operations are often performed at night or in dark environments; therefore,
firefighters need to be proficient in establishing a well-lit environment to provide
firefighters a safer working environment.
APPLICATION
Individual performance evolutions (IPEs) are used to document skill level
performance.
OPERATIONAL POLICY

OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE
Active members should perform IPEs without any failures in task steps.
PROCESS
Equipment Needed:
One firefighter in full personal protective equipment, one SCBA, one truck with a full
complement of hose and equipment, and a clear area to set up lighting equipment.
Task:
Provide adequate lighting to the specified area using the equipment supplied on the
truck.
Performance Outcome:
The candidate, while operating on a simulated fire ground, is to be able to provide
adequate lighting to the specified area. All needed equipment is utilized from the

provided truck.
Candidate Directive:
“Deploy the needed equipment from the truck to provide lighting the designated area.
Do you have any questions?”
Critical Errors:
If the candidate performs any of the following errors, the evolution is to be
terminated as it would be a failure of the current test attempt.
• Performed an unsafe act, which could result in injury to him/her or
the public.
• Perform an act which did or could have damaged equipment.

3. Extend 100-foot extension cord reel.
