PURPOSE
Proper deployments of attack lines are essential for effective fire ground operations.
APPLICATION
Individual performance evolutions (IPE) are used to document skill level
performance.
OPERATIONAL POLICY

OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE
Active members should perform IPE without any failures in task steps.
PROCESS
1. Equipment Needed: Engine with standard 2-1/2 inch hose line with a preconnected
1-3/4-inch bundle (Line 1), full personal protective equipment w/Self-contained
Breathing Apparatus.
2. Task: Deploy and advance the 2-1/2 inch hose line with a pre-connected 1-3/4inch
bundle to a designated point of 200 feet.

3. Performance Outcome: The candidate, while operating on a simulated fire ground,
should be able to deploy and advance a 2-1/2 inch hose line with a preconnected 1-
3/4-inch bundle to a designated mark.
4. Candidate Directive: “Deploy the Apartment Lay to the designated point of attack and
prepare for an interior attack. Do you have any questions?”
5. Critical Errors: If the member performs any of the following errors, the evolution will
be terminated, as it would be a failure of the current test attempt.
• Perform an unsafe act which could result in injury to
himself/herself or the public.
• Perform an act which did or could have damaged equipment.

1. Grasp loop above wye and remove hose bundle and place on
right shoulder
2. Turn towards direction of travel and advance to the point of
attack, maintaining control of the hose bundle
3. Identify and navigate any hazards or obstacles ensuring proper
hose deployment
4. Place hose bundle at the point of attack
5. Flake supply hose to remove any excessive kinks
6. Confirm the discharge outlet(s) from the wye are in the closed
position
7. Call for water
8. Remove straps and expand bundle outward from center
9. Secure nozzle and slowly open the appropriate outlet on the
wye to charge the 1-3/4 inch line.
