APPLICATION The use of a deck gun provides crews with the ability to rapidly apply large quantities of water onto the seat of a fire. It can be used in a blitz attack situation or prolonged water application. When using a deck gun, a continuous supply should be established as soon as possible. OPERATIONAL POLICY This section intentionally left blank. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE All hose lines should be completely deployed from hosebeds prior to charging. Hose lines should not have kinks which would reduce the effectiveness of water delivery. All nozzles should operate at appropriate pressures to achieve stated gpm. Tank water may be used to begin flow, but there should be no more than 10 seconds of stoppage of flow before securing a continuous water supply. PROCESS Time begins when apparatus stops at fire hydrant and ends when water is flowing at required pressure and supply line has been established. Section 315.009 Page 1 of 2 Equipment Needed: One engine company with members in full PPE, including SCBA. Task: Forward lay 300’ of LDH from a hydrant and place a deck gun into operation. Spot the apparatus appropriately and place a deck gun into operation, flowing a minimum of 1000 gpm.
