PURPOSE
Provide members with an overview of the Fresno Fire Department’s (Department)
Company Performance Evolutions (CPE) process.
APPLICATION
Company performance evolutions are used to demonstrate and document
proficiency in nationally recognized training standards.
OPERATIONAL POLICY
Members shall wear appropriate PPE while performing CPEs.
OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE
CPE should mimic emergency operations as closely as possible.
Members should utilize Department recognized procedures and tactics when
completing CPE.
Companies should review their performance and times upon completion.
PROCESS
National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) 1410, Training for Initial Emergency Scene
Operations, provides the fire service with nationally recognized mini mum
competency evolutions.
The following Department CPEs are based on NFPA 1410 evolutions. In some
cases, the NFPA 1410 evolutions have been slightly modified to accurately reflect

the equipment, tactics, and staffing levels utilized by the Department. These CPEs
provide a method of demonstrating company proficiency in specific firefighting
evolutions.
The Department CPEs are objective oriented. The intent is not to limit companies to
a single method of accomplishing the objective, but to allow crews to use common
fire-ground tactics to accomplish the objective in a timely, effective, and safe
manner.
Upon completion, crews may expand on the CPEs to more accurately represent
skills and tactics used on the fire ground.
