This skill may be required anytime a hydrant is not available for firefighting and a static source (i.e., swimming pool or canal) is accessible. APPLICATION Individual performance evolutions (IPE) are used to document skill level performance. OPERATIONAL POLICY This section intentionally left blank. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE This section intentionally left blank. PROCESS Equipment Needed: Operator and firefighter wearing helmet and gloves Two (2) personal flotation devices (PFD) as required FFD pumping apparatus Fresno City Fire Department Effective Date: March 2016 Robert J Garcia, Engineer Current Revision Date: 7/11/2022 Section 313.014a Next Revision (1) Date: 7/11/2024 Page 2 of 4 Task: Initiate and maintain a static water source for the purpose of supporting fire ground operations. Performance Outcome: Successfully draft from a static water supply. Critical Errors: If the candidate performs any of the following errors, the evolution is terminated, and the candidate fails the current test attempt. Performed an unsafe act, which could have resulted in injury to himself / herself or the public. Performed an act, which did or could have damaged equipment. Comprehensively evaluate the drafting site. 2. Initial spot short to allow workspace during set-up. 3. Operates primer to test and to ensure primer is wet. 4. Close Tank-To-Pump. 5. Close Pump Cooler valve. 6. Close all discharge valves and drains. 7. Close LDH intake bleed valves. 8. Drain pump and perform a dry vacuum test. 9. Prepare hard suction; tighten with mallet; tag line. 10. Spot apparatus, pump panel side, toward the water source. 11. Place wheel chock(s) as required. 12. Position and secure hard suction properly in water source. 13. Open pump intake valve at the hard suction inlet. 14. Engage the pump; (Refer to Training & Equipment Manual, Section 313.005a, Standard Pump Operation). 15. Set engine RPM at approximately 1000. 16. Prime until discharge is solid water, within 30-45 seconds. 17. Recognize signs of prime progress within 10 to 15 seconds. 18. When prime fails, disengage pump while troubleshooting. 19. Throttle up as necessary to approximately 100 psi PDP. 20. Open Reel Line slowly until clear of all air turbulence and PDP gauge reading is steady. 21. Secure a small stream always flowing to maintain prime. 22. At a minimum, observe the following: Water Tank Level. Engine Temperature. Oil Pressure. 23. Note abnormal noises or concerns. Critical Errors P *F P *F 1. Perform an unsafe act which could result in injury to himself / herself or the public. 2 Perform an act which did or could have damaged equipment. *10-minute rest period minimum before retest attempt.
