APPLICATION Individual performance evolutions (IPEs) are used to document skill level performance. OPERATIONAL POLICY This section intentionally left blank. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE This section intentionally left blank. PROCESS While driving apparatus, the ability to navigate obstacles safely is essential. The driver is to proceed through the course without crossing boundaries, touching cones, or touching delineators. With each element, the driver waits at the entry point until two outside proctors are prepared and approve the driver to proceed. The driver is not to use the backup camera screen for the purpose of this evolution. The intent is to operate the apparatus with use of mirrors. 1. Equipment and Personnel Requirements: (1) FFD pumping apparatus (1) FFD truck apparatus (1) Course map Fresno City Fire Department Effective Date: January 2017 Robert J Garcia, Engineer Current Revision Date: 7/14/2022 Section 313.002a Next Revision (1) Date: 7/14/2024 Page 2 of 6 (1) Caution tape (3) Tape measure (26) Short cones (2) Tall cones (67) Standard cones (22) Delineators (1) Driver (2) Proctors 2. Evolution: The maximum total points awarded for completing the course successfully is 65. To qualify a recruit firefighter for an endorsement on their driver’s license, a candidate must achieve a score of 80% or better. A candidate must not lose more than 13 points, which reflects 80% of 65. The proctor is to stop any evolution when unsafe acts or conditions occur. Any cone or delineator intentionally run over is penalized by the loss of all possible points for that event. For the measured stops in the Diminishing Clearance, Parallel Park, and Alley Dock, the participant is allowed to exit the cab and witness the measurement. Points are deducted anytime throughout the course when the following occurs: Participant turns the steering wheel while not traveling forward or backward. This includes entering and exiting events. The intent is to encourage good driving skills at all times. Forcing steering of the tires to turn left or right without traveling causes tremendous stress on steering components. Participant contacts any tire on the delineator’s rubber base. Participant touches a cone with any part of the apparatus, including rubber mounted marker lights. Any tire contacting the base of a cone is considered a cone touched. Participant stops the apparatus, then continues again in the same direction; OR stops, reverses direction to reposition, and then continues again in the original direction. Hardware projecting beyond the bumper surface (i.e., air horns, tail light bezels, and grab rails) are not considered. 3. Boundary Lines are as Follows: When defined by a cone, the inside edge of the cone tips. When defined by a delineator, the inside edge of the delineators. (Figure 1) (Figure 2) 4. Measuring Spot for Parallel Parking is as Follows: a. Measure from tire centerline. (Figure 3) b. Rubber on the line: OK (Figure 4) Effective Date: January 2017 Robert J Garcia, Engineer Current Revision Date: 7/14/2022 Section 313.002a Next Revision (1) Date: 7/14/2024 Page 4 of 6 c. Rubber over the line: Not OK (Figure 5) If no errors are noted within an event, the driver is awarded all points possible for the event. The driver is penalized points for each error until the maximum point value for the event has been lost. INFORMATION This section intentionally left blank.
