It is designed to provide emergency breathing air to firefighters. APPLICATION The MSA RIC Kit is used when a firefighter has become trapped in an environment requiring an air supply. OPERATIONAL POLICY The MSA RIC pack shall be part of the cache set up to support a Rapid Intervention Crew. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE This section intentionally left blank. PROCESS 1. Procedure for Buddy Breather Connection: a. Turn off the PASS of the downed firefighter. b. Turn the RIC pack air “ON” prior to entry. c. Take the UEBSS (Universal Emergency Breathing Supply System), or “Buddy Breather,” connection from the downed firefighter and attach to the UEBSS manifold on RIC kit. d. If the firefighter is not breathing, open the bypass on the second stage regulator. f. Secure the RIC pack. 2. Procedure for Second Stage Regulator Changeover: a. Turn off the PASS of the downed firefighter. b. Turn the RIC pack air “ON” prior to entry. c. Remove the victim firefighter’s second-stage regulator. d. Place the RIC second-stage regulator on the downed firefighter’s mask. e. Check to ensure the downed firefighter is breathing and air is flowing. f. If needed, take off the downed firefighter’s SCBA and leave it in structure. g. If the firefighter is not breathing, open the bypass on the second stage regulator. h. Secure the RIC pack. 3. Procedure for Transfill: a. Turn off the Pass firefighter’s PASS. b. Turn the RIC pack air “ON” prior to entry. c. Take the Transfill hose from the RIC pack and attach it to the Transfill connection on the downed firefighter’s SCBA. d. If multiple firefighters are down, fill the firefighter with the most amount of air first and continue to the next highest pressure. e. If the firefighter is not breathing, open the bypass on the second stage regulator. f. Secure the RIC pack. Turn off the PASS of the downed firefighter. b. Turn the RIC pack air ON prior to entry. c. Locate the firefighter’s head and check to see if the mask is in place. d. If the mask is not functioning or is already removed, take the mask from the RIC pack, and place it on the firefighter’s face. e. Tighten the head net and ensure airflow. f. If the firefighter is not breathing, open the bypass on the second stage regulator. g. If needed, take off the downed firefighter’s SCBA and leave it in the structure. h. Secure the RIC pack.
