SECTION 308.001 AIR AND OXYGEN CYLINDER SATELLITE DEPOTS
PURPOSE
Identify the fire stations designated as satellite depots for air and oxygen cylinders
and the responsibilities of company officers assigned to these stations.
APPLICATION
After incidents or when necessary, replace air/oxygen cylinder(s).
OPERATIONAL POLICY
The company officer is to report to the nearest depot or shop to replace used cylinders
before returning to quarters. This practice will be followed regardless of the time of
day or day of week.
OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE
This section intentionally left blank.
PROCESS
Fire Station Nos. 1, 3, 9, 11, and 18 are designated as air and oxygen cylinder satellite
depots. Each of these depots has been equipped with twelve (12)
30-minute air cylinders, (2) 60-minute air cylinders, and six (6) oxygen cylinders.
The Fresno Fire Department (Department) Air Shop will be the main supply depot for
30-minute air cylinders, 60-minute air cylinders, and oxygen cylinders in the event
satellite depots have been depleted of supply or response to the Department Shop
would allow for less out-of-district time than response to a satellite depot.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The company officers stationed at the satellite depots are responsible for maintaining
the air and oxygen cylinder inventories.
1. When the supply of full SCBA bottles and/or oxygen cylinders drops
to 50 percent of normal inventory during business hours, the air room
should be contacted at 621-4213. Should this level be reached
outside of normal working hours, company officers are to wait until
0800 hours of the next normal working day to notify the air room or
proceed to point 2.
2. If Operational needs occur after business hours and more than 50
percent of normal inventory of the SCBA bottles are empty , the
respective battalion chief is to be notified for approval for the
Department Shop or on-call Shop representative to respond. If
approved by the battalion chief, the shop will respond and fill the
empty bottles.
Upon receipt of a message from a satellite depot that air and/or oxygen cylinders are
needed, the appropriate Shop representative is to make immediate arrangements to
deliver the needed cylinders to that depot. This is to be treated as a priority
assignment.
