OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE
1. General Safety Rules:
a. Operator and others in the work area must wear safety
glasses and ear protection.
PROCESS
2. Set-Up for Demolition Hammer:
a. Turn on the USAR apparatus engine.
b. Airbrake engaged.
c. Transmission in neutral.
d. Press the Air Tool PTO switch upward. (See Figure 2.)
e. Compressor starts and the system is charged.
f. Air system is automatically set to the proper psi to run the
demolition hammer; no adjustment needed.
g. Check the gauge on the control panel to ensure the air
pressure production.
Note: If the gauge indicates 0 psi, check the red reset
button next to the gauge.

h. Select the desired breaking tip. (See Figure 3.)
i. The pick is used for tapping holes, concrete, and hard
materials.
ii. The small spade is used for concrete and hard materials.
iii. The large spade is used for hard soils and medium-
density materials.
i. Open the retainer latch and insert the desired breaking tip into
the bushing. (See Figure 4.)
j. Lock the breaking tip by pressing the retainer latch upward.
(See Figure 5.)

k. Connect the air hose to the air outlets on the rear of the US&R
apparatus using a 1-1/2-inch NSH thread adapter. Left and
right side outlets and controls are identical and are located
behind latched doors. They can be utilized simultaneously or
individually. The tool requires 100 psi to operate. (See
Figures 6 and 7.)
Note: The air hose adapter coupling allows the system to be
attached to any hose which has 1-1/2-inch NST
threads. The regular fire hose can serve as an air
supply line if the distance is an issue. (See Figure 8.)

l. Open the air control valve briefly to vent impurities out of the
air line prior to connecting the air line to the tool. Make sure
the end of air line is held or secured to prevent the hose from
whipping.
m. Connect the air supply line to the tool (quarter-turn coupling.)
(See Figure 9.)
n. Slowly open the air control valve at rear of the USAR
apparatus and increase to approximately 100 psi. (See Figure
10.)
Note: The valve is equipped with a regulator to prevent the
line from being pressurized above 100 psi.

o. Set the tool upright and begin work by pressing down on the
lever located on the handles. (See Figure 11.)
3. Shutting Down:
a. Turn off the air supply at the air control valve. (See Figure
12.)
b. Bleed the air out of the supply line by running the tool against
a hard surface until all air is exhausted from the line. (See
Figure 13.)

c. Disconnect the tool.
d. Shut down the air tool power take off unit (PTO) by pressing
the switch upward again. (See Figure 14.)
4. Prior to Storage:
a. Inject 1/2 ounce of oil into the equipment via sleeve fitting/air
inlet and continue to run the tool against an object (do not dry
run) to disperse oil.
Note: No oil type is listed for pavement breakers, but SAE
90W is used for Sullair drilling hammers. (See Figure
15.)
