APPLICATION The Partner K950 Chainsaw is designed to cut concrete up to a depth of 15 inches. OPERATIONAL POLICY This section intentionally left blank. Section 306.029 Page 1 of 13 OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE 1. General Safety Rules: a. Operator and others in the work area must wear safety glasses and ear protection. PROCESS 1. Cold Start: a. Slide the stop switch (red) to the left, toward the power unit. (See Figure 1.) b. Pull the choke lever (blue) out. Figure 1 Section 306.029 Page 2 of 13 c. Hold the throttle control lever in; press the starter throttle catch in (white). Release the throttle control and the throttle will remain locked in the half-throttle position. The catch is released when the throttle control is pressed in all the way. (See Figure 2.) d. Press in the decompression valve (blue) to reduce the pressure in the cylinder for an easier start. The decompression valve should always be used when starting. The valve will automatically return to its original position. (See Figure 3.) Figure 2 Figure 3 Section 306.029 Page 3 of 13 2. Warm Start: a. Use the same procedure as for cold start, but without the choke lever (blue). (See Figure 4.) Figure 4 3. Wet Cutting: a. Attach water hose to water quick connection (orange). (See Figure 5.) b. Use water adjustment valve (blue) until adequate flow is achieved. Note: The diamond blade must always be run with water. Dry cutting causes immediate overheating. The flow of water pushes particles away from the bar and the drive links. Figure 4 Section 306.029 Page 4 of 13 4. Suggested W ater Pressure: Minimum; 2.5 Bar (37 psi) Maximum: 11 Bar (160 psi) Recommended: 5 Bar (73 psi) 5. Start: a. Hold front handle with left hand and right foot on lower section of rear handle. b. Grip starter with right hand. Slowly pull starter cord until resistance is felt; then quickly pull. c. When engine starts, quickly apply full throttle and the starter throttle catch will automatically disengage. d. Push choke lever in. (See Figure 6.) Figure 6 Section 306.029 Page 5 of 13 6. Stop: a. The engine is stopped by sliding the stop switch (red) to the right. (See Figure 7.) 7. Tensioning the Chain: a. Un-tensioned chain. b. Start with opening the adjust screw. c. Pull the handle backwards. (See Figures 8 and 9.) Figure 5 Figure 8 Figure 9 Section 306.029 Page 6 of 13 d. Continue to move the handle downwards until the chain starts to tension. (See Figure 10.) e. Hold the bar upwards as you move the handle forward. (See Figure 11.) f. Tighten the adjust screw. (See Figure 12.) Figure 10 Figure 6 Figure 12 Section 306.029 Page 7 of 13 g. Close the adjust screw cover. (See Figure 13.) 8. Chain Tension: a. Is significantly lower than the Department’s vent saws. b. The lower chain tension reduces the friction between the bar and the chain. c. Chain slack should measure .2 inch to .5 inch at the middle of the bar. (See Figure 14.) 9. Changing the Chain and Rim: a. Press the spring down into the chain tensioner handle and turn the nut counter-clockwise. b. Unscrew the adjusting nut. (See Figure 15 and 16.) Figure 13 Figure 14 Section 306.029 Page 8 of 13 c. Remove the cover. (See Figure 17.) d. Remove the bar and chain. (See Figure 18.) Figure 16 Figure 15 Figure 17 Figure 18 Section 306.029 Page 9 of 13 e. Remove the spring holding the two “half-moons” using a screwdriver. (See Figure 19.) f. Remove the “half-moons”, the cup, and rim. (See Figure 20.) g. Remove the drive wheel. (See Figure 21.) h. Assembly takes place in the reverse order. Figure 19 Figure 20 Figure 21 Section 306.029 Page 10 of 13 10. Changing the Clamping Force of the Bar: a. Check the handle for tightness. (See Figure 22.) b. Move the lever to its rear, lower position. Press in the lever’s spring and turn the adjusting nut clockwise. (See Figure 23.) c. After adjustment, the chain tensioner handle should point nearly straight up when it is moved clockwise as far as possible. (See Figure 24.) Figure 22 Figure 23 Figure 24 Section 306.029 Page 11 of 13 11. Daily Maintenance: a. Check fluid levels. (Fuel is 1:50 two-stroke/gasoline mix.) b. Check chain condition and tension. c. Check condition of bar. d. Ensure all nuts and bolts are tight and nothing appears damaged. e. Check condition of pull cord. f. Ensure chain is properly lubricated for storage. 12. Weekly Maintenance: a. Perform daily checks. b. Check the filter(s). Clean, as needed, to ensure proper cooling and operation. c. Start and run the chain saw until warm (with the water source connected.) d. Check all cables and connections. e. Refuel as needed. INFORMATION 1.
