(See Figure 1.) APPLICATION The Ramset-Redhead Cobra Tool is intended for use when fastening lumber to concrete, concrete block, masonry walls, or steel. OPERATIONAL POLICY This section intentionally left blank. Figure 1 Section 306.019 Page 1 of 8 OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE 1. Safety: Always wear ear and eye protection when using the Ramset Cobra. 2. Center Punch Test: Always check the material being fastened into for hardness before attempting any fastening operation. Use a fastener as a center punch, strike with an average hammer blow, and check the results. If the fastener point is flattened, the material is too hard for the Cobra. If the fastener penetrates the material easily, the material is too soft. If the material cracks or shatters, the material is too brittle. If the fastener makes a small indentation into the material, it is suitable for fastening. (See Figure 2.) Figure 2 Section 306.019 Page 2 of 8 3. Fastening Applications: When fastening to concrete, allow a minimum of 3 inches between fasteners and from free edge. The concrete thickness should be three times the intended penetration length. (See Figure 3.) It is not recommended to fasten to concrete block or masonry walls; however, when used, ensure there are a minimum of 3 inches from the edges. When fastening to steel, allow 1-1/2 inches between fasteners and 1/2 inch away from edges. PROCESS 1. Operating the Cobra Tool: a. Fully extend the barrel and close the tool to the semi-closed position. This ensures the piston is in place for the fastener. (See Figure 4.) Figure 3 Figure 4 Section 306.019 Page 3 of 8 b. With your finger off the trigger, place the fastener (point out) into the muzzle. c. With the tool pointed in a safe direction, insert a load strip into the bottom of the handle. Push it in until your finger is in firm contact with the bottom of the handle. (See Figure 5.) d. Hold the tool perpendicular to the work surface with both hands and press firmly to fully depress the tool. Maintain firm downward pressure and pull the trigger. (See Figure 6.) Figure 5 Figure 6 Section 306.019 Page 4 of 8 e. After firing, fully open and close the tool to the semi-closed position to reset the piston. f. Insert another fastener and the tool is ready for use. g. To remove a fired strip, pull the strip out of the top of the gun. (See Figure 5.) Note: Do not attempt to pull the jammed strip out of the bottom of the gun. If jammed, remove from service for repair. 2. Disassembly: a. Rotate the barrel retention clip off the pawl using a flat- headed screwdriver. (See Figure 7.) b. Remove the pawl. (See Figure 8.) Figure 7 Figure 8 Section 306.019 Page 5 of 8 c. Slide the front barrel assembly out. (See Figure 9.) d. Unseat and remove the shear clip by prying it up with a flat blade, taking care to retain the clip. (See Figure 10.) e. Separate the front barrel and guide from the rear barrel assembly. f. Slide the piston out of the rear barrel assembly and slide the guide out. g. The tool is now disassembled and ready for normal cleaning. (See Figure 11.) Figure 9 Figure 10 Section 306.019 Page 6 of 8 h. Check the piston tip and ensure it is secure and has a flat tip. When the piston length is worn through use to 5-5/8 inches long, it must be replaced. (See Figure 12.) i. Re-assemble the tool in reverse order, making sure the groove in the front barrel lines up with the rear barrel. Also remember to align the groove in the tool body with the barrel assembly.
