305.003 REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE

PURPOSE
Procedures for repair and maintenance of Fresno Fire Department (FFD or
Department) communication equipment.
Note: For information regarding the Department Licensed
Frequencies, Dispatch and Response Procedures, and Radio
Identifiers, refer to the Standard Operating Procedures Manual,
Section 204.002 Communication System.
APPLICATION
The Department’s Communications Team is located at Fire Station No. 8. The
Communications Team handles a variety of communications related issues,
including repair and maintenance of mobile, portable radios, and MDTs. Members
are to contact the Communications Team when experiencing operability issues with
said equipment.
OPERATIONAL POLICY

PROCESS
Should a company’s mobile, portable radio or MDT fail, the company officer is to
contact the Communications Team via telephone or through Fire Dispatch, to
arrange for repair or replacement. Prior to proceeding to Station No. 8 for repairs,
the company officer is to contact the respective battalion chief.
Should a mobile radio failure occur and the Communications Team cannot easily
remedy the situation, the vehicle is to remain in service and one of the assigned
portable radios is to be used for communications. The battalion chief will be advised

of the situation and may order the company officer to a relief apparatus while the
radio is repaired.
The operators of non-emergency vehicles will have the responsibility to ensure
prompt repair of communication equipment mounted in or assigned to their vehicles.
