Garcia, Engineer Current Revision Date: 8/16/2023 Section 303.007 Next Revision (1) Date: 8/16/2025 Page 1 of 5 Fresno City Fire Department 300 Training and Equipment Manual SECTION 303.007 HONDA WX15 PORTABLE WATER PUMP PURPOSE The purpose of this policy is to outline the care and use of the Honda Portable Water Pump WX15. APPLICATION The Honda Portable Water Pump is used to fill or supply various Fresno Fire Department (FFD or Department) apparatus. OPERATIONAL POLICY Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment is worn when operating the Honda Portable Water Pump. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE This section intentionally left blank. PROCESS Before and After Use Checks: 1. Check fuel level. 2. Check the oil level before starting. The pump has an oil alert system that automatically stops the engine before the oil level falls below the safe limit. 3. To check and clean the air filter: a. Wash in warm soapy water, rinse, and allow to dry thoroughly. b. Dip the air filter in clean engine oil, then squeeze out all excess oil. Effective Date: October 2007 Robert J. Be careful to prevent direct from entering the carburetor. Starting the Engine: Before the pump is started, it must be primed. To prime the pump, water must be poured into the priming water filler. (Figure A) 1. Ensure the fuel valve lever is in the ON position. (Figure B) Effective Date: October 2007 Robert J. The engine does not need to be choked if it is warm. (Figures C) 3. Advance the throttle halfway. (Figure D) 4. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Effective Date: October 2007 Robert J. After starting the engine, move the throttle lever to the FAST position for self- priming and check to see if water is flowing. Once a prime is established, adjust the throttle as necessary. Stopping the Engine: 1. Move the throttle to the slow position. 2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. INFORMATION The WX15 is lightweight, compact, and easy to use. The portable pump is a general purpose centrifugal self-priming pump capable of pumping 63.4 gallons a minute maximum capacity. The pump has an 8-foot section of 1-1/2-inch hard suction with a foot valve strainer and two 1-1/2-inch NPSH female to NH male thread adapters. Garcia, Engineer Current Revision Date: 8/16/2023 Section 303.007 Next Revision (1) Date: 8/16/2025 Page 5 of 5 Maintenance Before/After Each Use Check Oil, Air Filter, Bolts And Nuts Maximum Discharge Capacity 63 GPM @ Zero Total Head Pressure Total Head Pressure is Distance from Water Surface Level to Discharge Level Oil Alert System: The oil alert system is designed to prevent engine damage caused by an insufficient amount of oil in the crankcase. Before the oil level in the crankcase can fall below a safe limit, the oil alert system automatically stops the engine (the ignition switch remains in the on position). If the engine stops and does not restart check the oil level before troubleshooting in other areas.
