PURPOSE
To guide members in the development of their career from entry level through
management level.
APPLICATION
All suppression members of the Fresno Fire Department (FFD or Department).
OPERATIONAL POLICY

OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE
A successful career in firefighting develops through experience, education, and
community service. Members should first demonstrate superior skills at their current
position prior to seeking advancement.
It is the intent of the Department to promote qualified candidates from within the
organization. In recognition of unusual circumstances, which may occur, such as
large numbers of vacancies and insufficient applicants, the Director of Personnel
and Fire Chief reserve the right to alter the minimum qualifications (MQ) if it
becomes necessary to attain a reasonable applicant pool.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline
in order to qualify for participation an examination process.

INFORMATION
Community Service
While the Department cannot mandate a volunteer spirit, the Department recognizes
its commitment as part of the community. In addition to participating in various
events, some members have become more involved as coordinators of service
events. Coordinating such events provides valuable experience in command
functions such as organization, scheduling, and public networking.
