APPLICATION This policy applies to all fire sprinkler systems within the City of Fresno and contract service areas, including both required and voluntary systems. OPERATIONAL POLICY This section intentionally left blank. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE Fire sprinkler systems must be maintained in accordance with the original installation standard in effect at the time the system was permitted and installed. Where systems (or system components) are found to be damaged, defective, recalled, etc., the fire code official has the authority to regulate repairs to ensure the repairs performed conform to the correct installation standard for that fire sprinkler system. Additionally, the fire code official has the authority to verify that when fire sprinkler system components are replaced, the new components meet or exceed the original system specifications and performance criteria. Based upon the need for uniformity in application across the Department’s diverse service delivery area, and after careful deliberation, the Department has determined the following: 1. When a fire sprinkler head has been painted (sensing element), mechanically damaged, or is corroded beyond its serviceable limits, the sprinkler head must be replaced. Prior to replacement, the servicing contractor must obtain a permit from the Department for the replacement of all fire sprinkler heads. 3. For each one hundred (100) fire sprinkler heads replaced (or fraction thereof) a single permit must be obtained. 4. It is the obligation of the servicing contractor to schedule and complete all installation field inspections for the issued permit. PROCESS This section intentionally left blank.
