Rodriguez, Management Analyst II ADA PURPOSE The purpose of this policy is to provide direction for temporarily increasing the occupant load within an assembly occupancy as noted in the California Fire Code (CFC), Chapter 10. APPLICATION This policy clarifies the Fresno Fire Department (FFD or Department) requirements for temporarily increasing occupant loads in assembly occupancies within the City of Fresno and contract service areas. OPERATIONAL POLICY This section intentionally left blank. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE Based upon the need for uniformity in application across the Department’s diverse service delivery area, and after careful deliberation, the Department has determined the following: The Department may consider a ten percent (10%) increase in occupant load within a given assembly occupancy as permitted within the CFC, with a stand-by fire watch performed by a single FFD Fire Prevention Inspector. As a condition of approval, FFD fire watch is required to begin an hour before any event is opened to the public and will last at least one hour after the event concludes. FFD fire watch is completed on a fee for service and staff availability basis. Cost for service will be calculated per the City of Fresno Master Fee Schedule (MFS). Section 402.014 Page 1 of 2 Any increase in occupant load beyond the ten percent (10%) noted above will be made at the sole discretion of the Fire Marshal, or designee, with additional requirements. Approval will not establish a precedent for any future events. PROCESS This section intentionally left blank. INFORMATION As noted in the CFC, the fire code official has the authority to formulate policies they deem necessary based upon local conditions including the consideration of temporarily increasing the occupant load within an assembly occupancy.
