402.007 INTERNATIONAL STANDARDIZATION

PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to clarify the Fresno Fire Department’s (FFD or Department)
requirements for the use of International Standardization Organization (ISO) storage
containers.
APPLICATION
This policy applies to the use of ISO shipping containers for storage proposes.
OPERATIONAL POLICY
ISO containers will be evaluated as close as possible to exterior storage. The following
criteria will be specific to ISO containers being used for storage:
1. A revised site plan must be submitted to and approved by the City of Fresno
Planning and Development Department prior to submitting to the Department.
2. No stacking of containers is permitted.
3. Containers will be a minimum of ten (10) feet from all buildings and property lines.
4. No utility installations are permitted (i.e., electrical, water, or sewer).
5. Containers are for storage use only (no habitable space).
6. Flammable/combustible liquids and hazardous materials stored under exempt
amounts per outdoor control area as defined in the current adopted version of the
California Fire Code (CFC).
7. No connecting structures or attached canopies are permitted.
8. Surrounding property will be free of vegetation.

DEFINITIONS
1. ISO storage containers are defined as Department of Transportation (DOT)
approved pre-manufactured, metal shipping containers.
