207.005 COMMUNITY IDENTIFICATION FOR FIRE
APPARATUS

PURPOSE
Recognize the value of identifying with the community it serves, by allowing Fresno
Fire Department (FFD or Department) companies to display artwork on fire
apparatus that represents the district in which it resides The following are benefits to
this policy:
1. Increase fire company identity, pride, and morale.
2. Increase ownership of fire equipment and district by members and the
community it serves.
3. Increase neighborhood involvement and interest in each of the City of
Fresno’s (City) fire stations.
APPLICATION
Company officers and crewmembers assigned to a fire company and district.
OPERATIONAL POLICY
Apparatus decals will not be altered.
Items such as, but not limited to, flags, stickers, decals, logos, emblems or insignias
will not be affixed to the apparatus without prior approval from the apparatus
committee and fire administration executive staff.

PROCESS
A review of the proposed design will be conducted by the apparatus committee and
the executive staff. Fire companies interested in participating in this program may
submit a conceptual design to the apparatus committee chair for review.
The conceptual design may be developed with the assistance of a local graphic
design company approved by the Department.
Geographic landmarks, neighborhood themes, and areas of city pride should be
considered for inclusion in the artwork.
The final product may consist of a plastic or vinyl decal.
The following requirements exist in order to obtain approval:
1. The fire company design must identify, recognize, and/or engage the
neighborhood in which it resides.
2. The design may be discussed at a council district meeting or with a
council member in which the fire company resides.
3. The design must articulate service to the community.
4. The company officers of all shifts must approve the design.
Company officers interested in participating in this program should consult with their
respective battalion chief for further information and prior to submission.
