207.004 KEYS ON APPARATUS

PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to describe the keys to be carried on all Fresno Fire
Department (FFD or Department) apparatus.
APPLICATION
Refer to this policy to ensure the proper inventory of keys is carried on apparatus.

OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE
The keys carried on an apparatus represent a significant security concern regarding
access to both public and private properties. The keys should be stored in the glove
box of the apparatus out of view.

INFORMATION
Some apparatus carry special keys for use in their district. A request can be made
to the Department repair and maintenance section to make a brass tab for these
additional keys. Indicate how the key is to be marked keeping in mind the space

limitation and the markings already in use. Battalion chiefs will be supplied with all
necessary keys.
The following keys and key rings are provided to each in-service and relief
apparatus:
1. School key, Master M20, marked "School M20."
2. School key, Sergeant (no number or GT 1400M), marked "School."
Note: This key is being phased out by Fresno Unified School
District; however, it may still be encountered at some
facilities.
3. Medeco Lock Box key marked "Medeco" (round head).
4. Knox Box key marked "Medeco" (square head).
5. Appropriate station house key marked "Station."
6. Fuel key marked "Fuel."
7. Two (2) Fresno Air Terminal master gate keys marked "FAT Gate."
8. Police/fire bypass key marked "PF Emerg" (painted red).
9. Police/fire bypass construction core key marked "P-F Emerg"
(painted red).
10. Two (2) Fresno Metropolitan Flood Control keys (no number or
Master No. 2402 and No. 3753) marked "FMFC."
11. Three (3) Fresno Irrigation District keys (no number or Master Nos.
A473, A1693, or A1699), marked “FID.”
12. Clovis Unified School District key marked “Clovis.”
13. Central Unified School District key marked “Central.”
14. Palm/Nees gate key marked “PALM/NEES.”
Note: These keys will only be found on E2, P2, E11, T11, R11,
E13, WT13, E17, BC1, BC2, BC3 and BC4.
