PURPOSE
This policy describes the proper use of Fresno Fire Department (FFD or Department)
issued station keys and how a member may replace a key if lost or damaged.
APPLICATION
Members who are issued station keys should refer to this policy for guidance on use
or loss of a station key.
OPERATIONAL POLICY
Members of the Department who have need to enter fire stations as part of their
regular duties are issued a Best Lock C-8 key which will allow them to gain access to
any fire station. Each key has a unique identification number stamped onto the key
itself. Keys are issued by the Department Senior Storeskeeper.
Keys are for the use of the member alone and are not to be loaned to any other person.
Members should be careful to maintain all Department issued keys so that they are
not damaged or lost.
When a member is no longer an employee of the Department for any reason, they will
be required to turn over any Department issued keys to the Senior Storeskeeper.
OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE
In the event that a key is lost or damaged, the member should notify their immediate
supervisor who will arrange with the Senior Storeskeeper to replace the key. A
member may be required to pay a replacement fee for any key that is lost or damaged.
This fee covers the cost of the locksmith and actual replacement of the key.
