PURPOSE
This policy is to provide members with general guidelines related to the use of the
Fresno Map Viewer on apparatus mobile data terminals (MDTs).
APPLICATION
The Fresno Map Viewer is meant as a back -up to the mobile computer aided
dispatch (CAD) software used on the apparatus and other response unit MDTs.
OPERATIONAL POLICY
All Fresno Fire Department (FFD or Department) MDTs will have a copy of the
Fresno Map Viewer. The Fresno Map Viewer will be kept up to date by Fire GIS.
OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE
When the Pre-plan file associated with the dispatched address does not open on the
MDT or if the mobile CAD software used on the MDT fails, the Fresno Map Viewer
should be used to find the map needed to navigate to the fire or other alarm to which
the unit is assigned. The Fresno Map Viewer can either be used in conjunction with,
or in place of, hard-copy maps. The Fresno Map Viewer is to contain maps covering
the entire response area of the Department.
PROCESS
Opening the Fresno Map Viewer
1. From startup of the MDT. When the MDT is turned on or restarted, the
Fresno Map Viewer is set up to start up behind the VisiNet Mobile software. It
can be accessed by clicking on it in the task bar at the bottom of the screen.

the following (located in the upper right corner of the screen ):

stand-alone map or document viewer on the MDT. There is no install for the Fresno
Map Viewer and the MDT sees it as a simple file, such as a PDF or other document.

“Edit Map Info” Button
This button can be used to add information to the information screen in the middle of
the application when a page is highlighted.
Note: The new information will only be added to the computer being used.
For example, if a member wants to enter a gate key code in the
comments section of the apartment complex page, they must forward
the information to FireGIS in order to be dispersed to all units.
“Print Map Book” Button
This button is not functional on the apparatus Toughbook, as there is no printer on
