PURPOSE
To better serve the citizens of Fresno who have been victims of residential fires, or
natural disasters, the American Red Cross has established on-call Disaster Action
Teams (DAT). These teams are on-call 24 hours a day and are capable of
arranging for short-term emergency shelter and other support for victims.
APPLICATION
The DAT’s will activate when requested by the Incident Commander (IC) through the
Fresno Fire Department (FFD or Department) dispatch center. The Red Cross will
elaborate how this will be provided to the client at the scene. When 25 or more
individuals are displaced, a mass shelter may be opened. The decision to open a
mass shelter or to provide other housing support will be made in coordination with
the City’s Emergency Preparedness Officer. Additional resources, such as a case
worker, may also be available.
