HomeMy WebLinkAbout204.001 - Administration and Management Fresno City Fire Department 200 Standard Operating Procedures Manual SECTION 204.001 ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT PURPOSE The purpose of this procedure is to provide all Fresno Fire Department (FFD or Department) members with general guidelines related to the administration and management of the Department’s communications system. APPLICATION To best meet Department operational needs, items related to the administration and management of the communications system are identified in this procedure. OPERATIONAL POLICY This section intentionally left blank. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE Battalion chiefs are assigned administrative duties to ensure necessary functions of the communications system are monitored and maintained. Responsibilities are assigned by the Fire Chief or their designee and include the following items: • Maintaining communications equipment inventory. • Development of radio procedures. • Coordination of radio system design and development with related City departments. • Communications system coordination with neighboring and regional fire agencies. • Liaison to coordinate emergency dispatch operations with the Fresno County EMS Communications Center (dispatch). Camp, Battalion Chief Current Revision Date: 03/23/2023 Section 204.001 Next Revision (1) Date: 03/23/2026 Page 1 of 3 •Maintaining and supporting the Department’s Communications Team. •Development of methodologies which will ensure compliance with Department procedures regarding the maintenance and inventory of communications equipment. Communications Center Access to the Communications Center by uniformed on-duty members for routine business may be obtained at the front door of the Emergency Communications Center located at 555 N. Halifax, in Clovis. Notify the on-duty Communications supervisor who you are and why you are there. Off-duty Department members may gain access in the same way; however, they should make prior arrangements if not involved in official business. Arrangements can be made by contacting a Communications supervisor at (559) 621-4357 (Dispatch). All Department members should restrict contact with the dispatchers at the Communications Center. However, routine call information requests or information requested by the Communications Center may be exchanged directly. Any questions regarding errors, delays in dispatch, or requests for audio tapes of incidents should go through the Department’s communications liaison. When any member of the Department desires to make comments, suggestions, criticism, or praise of any policy or procedure concerning Communications or its personnel, e-mail detailing all the facts should be forwarded through the Department’s communications liaison to the communications supervisor.
