Garcia, Engineer Current Revision Date: 8/25/2023 Section 303.007a Next Revision (1) Date: 8/25/2025 Page 1 of 5 Fresno City Fire Department 300 Training and Equipment Manual SECTION 303.007a HONDA WH20XT PORTABLE WATER PUMP PURPOSE The purpose of this policy is to outline the care and use of the Honda WH20XT Portable Water Pump. APPLICATION The Honda Portable Water Pump is carried on OES 5113 and used to fill or supply various Fresno Fire Department (FFD or Department) apparatus. OPERATIONAL POLICY Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment is worn when operating the Honda Portable Water Pump. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE This section intentionally left blank. PROCESS Before and After Use Checks: 1. Check fuel level. 2. Check the oil level before starting. 3. To check and clean the air filter: a. Wash in warm soapy water, rinse, and allow to dry thoroughly. b. Dip the air filter in clean engine oil, then squeeze out all excess oil. c. Wipe dirt from the air cleaner body and cover using a moist rag. Be careful to prevent direct from entering the carburetor. Effective Date: July 2023 Robert J. To prime the pump, water must be poured into the priming water filler, or the priming foot strainer used to prime the pump. (Figure A) 1. Ensure the fuel valve lever is in the ON position. (Figure B) 2. To start a cold engine, move the choke lever to the CLOSED position. a. The engine does not need to choke if it is warm. Effective Date: July 2023 Robert J. Open the choke. 6. After starting the engine, move the throttle lever to the FAST position for self-priming and check to see if water is flowing. Once a prime is established, adjust the throttle as necessary. Stopping the Engine: 1. Move the throttle to the slow position. 2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. INFORMATION The WH20XT is lightweight, compact, and easy to use. The portable pump is a general purpose centrifugal self-priming pump capable of pumping 119 gallons a minute maximum capacity. (Figure F) The pump has two sections of 1-1/2-inch hard suction with a foot valve strainer and floating strainer and two 1-1/2-inch NPSH female to NH male thread adapters.
