SECTION 211.004 ANNUAL PPE AND PERSONNEL INSPECTION - PSTRAX
PURPOSE
The purpose of this procedure is to provide Fresno Fire Department (FFD or
Department) members with information, direction, and process to complete the annual
personnel and personal protective equipment (PPE) inspections; visual and
advanced.
APPLICATION
To be used by all personnel involved in the completion of the annual PPE and
personnel inspections.
OPERATIONAL POLICY
All personal protective equipment will be inspected and documented annually.
OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE
Annual PPE and personnel inspection results should be recorded in the Department’s
checklist and inventory management system (PSTrax).
Battalion Chiefs should conduct the annual personnel and visual PPE inspections
during the month of January. The following items are included in this inspection:
• PPE
o Turnout Coat (2)
o Turnout Pants (2)
o Hoods (2)
o Structure Helmet
o Structure Gloves
o Structure Boots
o Wildland Coat (2)
o Wildland Pants (2)
o Wildland Helmet
o Wildland Gloves

o Wildland Boots
o SCBA Mask
o Portable Radio
• Grooming

The Support Services Division should conduct or coordinate the annual advanced
PPE inspections by battalion, quarterly, beginning in January. The following items are
included in this inspection:
• Turnout Coat (2)
• Turnout Pants (2)
PROCESS
To complete the documentation of the inspections, the following steps are to be
followed:
Begin by logging into PSTrax by using the directions found in Standard Operating
Procedures Manual, Section 211.001, PSTrax.
From the PSTrax home screen, start by clicking the area circled below (Figure 1):

To start the inspection:
1. Find and select the user.
2. Search and select the event.
a. The inspections below are separate and need to be completed
independently of each other.
i. Annual PPE Inspection
ii. Personnel Inspection
iii. Advanced Inspection Turnout (ISP or PPE Tech only)
Note: If the PPE gear is not entered, the inspection will not populate and will
need to be scheduled.
3. Click the “Search the Schedule” button (Figure 2).

4. Complete the inspection. The window below populates when the directions
above are followed.
a. In the log event row, start by clicking each inspection (Figure 3). Each
inspection should be completed one by one. Once the inspection is
clicked, the inspection window opens. Pass or Fail each item on the
inspection form. Once the inspection is complete, click the “log event”
tab, and it will drop off the page.
