Selecting the orange button will change the channel to a pre-designated
channel (Metro 1/Metro 2). Holding down the button for three or more seconds
will re-assign the pre-designated assignment to whichever channel is currently
selected. (Operator should leave HC as designated).
4.One Dot Button (Above the Push-to-Talk): This button is assigned as the
Nuisance Channel Delete. To temporarily remove a channel from the scan list,
press the assigned button while the nuisance channel is being received. To
revert to the programmed scan list, turn off scan for at least 5 seconds or cycle
the radio power.
5.Two Dot Button (Below the Push-to-Talk): Repeater Talk around mode [T/A].
When T/A is enabled the icon will be displayed on the top line of the LCD.
NOTE: Channels programmed as receive only are not affected by
the Talk around selection.

7.Soft Key One [CHAN+]:
Figure 7
Allows for adding or deleting channels in any command zone. While operating
in a standard zone press the [CHAN+] button to add the currently selected
channel to a command zone. The list of available command zones will be
displayed. Use the PREV and NEXT buttons to select the zone to add the
channel or use the number keys to move directly to the desired zone. Pressing
the ENT button copies the channel information to the first available channel slot
in the selected command zone.
Example: If the command zone has three channels, the newly added channel
will be channel four.
Editing a Command Zone [Chan-]: This can only be done when operation in a
Command Zone. While operating in a Command Zone, channels may be
removed by pressing the Chan- button to remove the selected channel from
the Zone. When the channel is deleted, the display will momentarily show
“Channel Deleted” and the following channels move up in the list.
Example: If Channel 5 is deleted, then Channel 6 will move up and become
the new Channel 5, Channel 7 becomes Channel 6, and so on.
To delete all channels from a Command Zone, press and hold [CHAN-] button
until the words “Delete All Channels?” appear and then press ENT. All
channels from that Command Zone will be erased and a constant tone will be
heard, meaning that Command Zone is empty.
Note: Modification to a Command Zone Channel, such as OST, does
not affect the original standard zone channel.

b. Channel Scan [SCAN]: On/Off
When on, Channel Scan monitors activity on the scan list channels in
the currently operating zone. Scan operates only while the radio is not
transmitting. Channels designated as scan channels are identified by
the symbol at the top of the LCD display. If allowed, the scan list can
be edited by the radio user (see Channel Scan List). When Channel
Scan is on, the symbol will be shown at the top of the LCD display.
When a signal is detected, the scanning stops, and the message is
received.
The received channel is shown in place of the selected channel. Once
the signal ends, the radio continues to monitor the channel for the preset
scan hold time before it resumes scanning. Channel Scan operation
can be assigned to a switch or as a button or a menu list item. Channel
Scan may be used in conjunction with Priority Scan operation (see
Priority Scan).
c. Channel Scan List [SCN+]: The Channel Scan List allows the radio user
to add or remove channels from the list of channels to be monitored
while channel scanning. To edit the Channel Scan list, select the
channel you wish to add or remove from the scan list. Press "+/-" to add
or remove. Channels in the scan list will be indicated with the symbol.
d. Cloning: This feature allows cloning of the radio. The radio may operate
as a slave or master when cloning.
e. Contrast:
When this feature is selected, you will have two options:
• Adjust Contrast: Selecting this option will allow the display
contrast to be adjusted by pressing either “+/-”.
• Default: Selecting the default will bring the contrast back to
factory settings.
f. Date and Time: Displays the date and time. The edit button allows the
user to change the date and time. The time will stay stored in the radio
when powered off.
g. GPS (Global Positioning): Select “GPS Information” to view the current
location displayed in degrees, minutes, and seconds.
h. Priority Chans (Priority Channel):

• “System P1 Chan”: Uses the selected channel as the
Priority 1 channel scanned regardless of what zone you
are in while in normal operating mode and scanning.
• “System P2 Chan”: Uses the selected channel as the
Priority 2 channel scanned regardless of what zone you
are in while in normal operating mode and scanning.
• “Zone 1 P1 Chan”: Uses the selected channel as the
Priority 1 channel scanned only while in its own zone. The
zone number will be displayed as the zone for the Priority
channel you selected.
• “Zone 1 P2 Chan”: Uses the selected channel as the
Priority 2 channel scanned only while in its own zone. The
zone number will be displayed as the zone for the Priority
channel you selected.
i. Priority Scan: Two channels can be designated as priority channels.
When Priority Scan is on, these channels are monitored for incoming
traffic. When a qualified signal is detected, the speaker is opened to
listen to the message. If a message is detected on the channel
designated as Priority 2, the radio will continue to monitor Priority 1
channel for activity. If activity is detected, the radio will switch to the
Priority 1 channel. Channels designated as Priority channels are
identified by the P1 or P2 symbol at the top of the LCD display. When
Priority Scan is on, the symbol will be shown.
j. Radio Info: Specific information for the radio.
k. Squelch Adjust: Squelch Adjust is used to change the signal strength
required for the radio’s speaker to unmute.
• “Adjust”: Adjust the squelch on a “Selected Channel”,
“Selected Zone”, or “All Channels” by pressing either “+/-”.
• “Reset”: Reset the squelch to factory settings on a
“Selected Channel”, “Selected Zone”, or “All Channels” by
pressing either “+/-”.
• “Set Default Level”: Adjust the default squelch level for all
channels by pressing either “+/-”.
l. Versions: Shows what version the radio has installed.
m. Vote Scan: Channels in a multicast conventional system can be added
to the scan list and designated as “voted” channels. When a signal is
received on a voted channel the radio checks all voted channels in the
vote scan group and selects the channel with the best signal. The BKR
radios have been programmed with five (5) vote scan enabled channels:

1.Fire 1
2.Fire 2
3.Fire 3
4.Metro 1/ Metro 2
5.CLV 3
Vote scan improves on-scene communications by receiving the clearest
signal being transmitted from radios as listed above or infrastructure
transmitters. It does this by scanning transmit and receive frequencies
of a duplex channel and votes the strongest signal.
n.Keypad Programming: Allows the radio to be programmed manually
from the keypad.

DEFINITIONS
1. Vote Scan: A feature which provides a form of roaming for conventional
channels. If a conventional channel is programmed as a vote scan channel,
the subscriber radio automatically scans all of the channels in the programmed
vote scan list for the best signal. This allows the subscriber radio to select an
acceptable repeater for communication.
