SECTION 211.002 APPARATUS INVENTORY PROCEDURES - PSTRAX
PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to ensure fire apparatus are properly equipped through
an inventory process. The inventory serves as an official Fresno Fire Department
(FFD or Department) record and should be stored in accordance with this policy.

OPERATIONAL POLICY
Once the annual inventory is completed in PSTrax, the Company officer will compare
the completed inventory to the previous year’s inventory, and check for completeness
and missing items. The completed inventory should also be cross-referenced to the
standard inventories found in the Training and Equipment Manual, Sections 310.005,
Care and Maintenance of Relief Apparatus, 310.006, Engine Company Inventory -
Standard, and 310.007a, Truck Company Inventory – Standard.
Temporary equipment transfers shall be completed any time a relief vehicle is used
and is to be completed in PSTrax.
OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE
Equipment should be stored in the standard location identified by the equipment
committee. Changes to the stored location of equipment are not to be made without
the authorization of the Operations Chief.
Company officers are responsible for completing the annual inventory record on front
line apparatus and reserve apparatus by August 31st, or as scheduled.
The primary location of the inventory record will be kept electronically in PSTrax.

PROCESS
Once inventory is completed in PSTrax, the company officer will send an email
confirming the inventory has been completed to the equipment committee
chairperson. The equipment committee chairperson must ensure completeness and
reconcile any missing inventory. The equipment committee chairperson will forward
the results to the Operations Chief.
To standardize inventories, start on the left side of the apparatus (driver’s side):
Label the first compartment adjacent to the cab “Compartment No. 1" using label tape
or similar. Place the label inside the compartment where it is visible. Continue
towards the rear, and label compartments in sequential order.
1. Remove equipment from each compartment and inventory all items
from the compartment.
2. After all the compartments on the driver’s side are labeled and
inventoried, check for any equipment mounted on the left side of the
exterior. If noted, list the equipment under the sub-section, “Exterior
Mounted - Left Side”.
3. Move to the rear of the apparatus, label, and inventory the
compartments. If equipment is mounted on the exterior, note a sub-
section “Exterior Mounted – Rear”. Move to the passenger’s side.
Label and inventory the compartments from the rear towards the front.
List equipment mounted on the exterior under the sub-section “Exterior
Mounted - Right Side”.
4. Move to the front, and list equipment mounted on the exterior under the
sub-section “Exterior Mounted – Front”.
5. Inventory the cab. The cab can be inventoried as one unit or
subdivided. Sub-sections could read; “Cab,” “Cab – Driver’s Side,”
“Cab – Captain’s Side,” and “Cab – Rear”.
Move to the top, list hose, nozzles, deck guns, red lines, and other miscellaneous
equipment under the sub-section “Top Side”.
All hose adapters are to be listed by type of coupling (male or female) and coupling
size. Examples:
• 2-1/2-inch female x 1-1/2-inch male.

• 6-inch female x 4-1/2-inch female.
• 2-1/2-inch double male 1/2-inch double female.
• 2-1/2-inch female x 4-1/2-inch male.
• Wye 2-1/2-inch female x 1-1/2-inch male.
Temporary equipment transfers shall be completed anytime equipment is moved from
one apparatus to another temporarily. Complete the following steps:
1. Select the Actions tab from the primary PSTrax home page (see Figure 1, #1).
2. Select the Transfer Items tab (see Figure 1, #2).
3. When a new Transfer Checklist screen appears, select the appropriate field
under “Start a new transfer”.
• Engine Changeover
• Tower/Ladder Change Over
• Other Vehicle/Apparatus
4. Complete all required fields and select the changeover items that are
transferred.
5. Click the Log Transfer of Checked Items tab at the bottom of the page to
complete the record.
An inventory shall be completed and the temporary equipment transfer closed upon
returning the reserve apparatus to its parent station. When moving off the reserve
apparatus the temporary transfer should be closed using the following steps:
1. Select the Transfer tab (see Figure 1, #3).
2. Find the open transfer that is to be edited or closed by clicking the appropriate
field.
a. All the temporarily transferred items should be accounted for and
changed over, as needed.
b. Appropriate notification shall be made for any missing equipment or
vehicle damage.
