APPLICATION The probationary Battalion Chief task book is designed to assist the newly appointed Battalion Chief in developing the basic skills necessary to perform in a satisfactory manner as a Battalion Chief of the Fresno Fire Department. OPERATIONAL POLICY As part of the probationary period, the probationary Battalion Chief will be required to have a Deputy Chief or designee, sign off the listed subjects and skills of the task book. The task book is to be submitted to the Training Division prior to the end of the one- year probationary period. Probationary Battalion Chiefs are responsible for completing the “Performance Requirements for the Probationary Battalion Chiefs” agreement. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE Probationary Battalion Chiefs should learn the subjects listed in the task book and demonstrate competency in each area prior to the end of his/her one-year probationary period. Deputy Chiefs should evaluate the progress of the listed Battalion Chief subjects and/or skills. PROCESS The Deputy Chief or designee is to sign off when the probationary Battalion Chief has successfully demonstrated and met the intent of the individual identified task. Note: The individually mentioned tasks are a comprehensive list of the tasks which are essential to successful completion of the Battalion Chief probationary period. Evaluations need not be performed in the sequence presented in the task book, nor is the probationary Battalion Chief limited to these subjects and tasks. The Deputy Chief, as well as the probationary Battalion Chief, is encouraged to include subjects or tasks he/she feels need additional improvement. INFORMATION This section intentionally left blank. I will submit my probationary Fire Battalion Chief task book to the Training Division prior to the end of my probationary period. I will successfully complete a Fresno Fire Department Battalion Chiefs Academy within my probation, provided the class is scheduled and I have not already attended. All JPRs must be completed within a California Fire Agency or Accredited Regional Training Program (ARTP). For JPRs that are not part of a candidate’s regular work assignment or are a rare event, the evaluator may develop a scenario or interview that supports the required task and evaluate the candidate to the stated standard. Each JPR shall be evaluated after the candidate’s Fire Chief initiates the task book. HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT 1.
