The existing Fresno Amtrak station is not adequate for the high numbers of passengers boarding the San Joaquin trains at Fresno. The project will renovate the historic Santa Fe railway station for Amtrak operations. The historic station, which was built in 1899, is located at the southeast corner of Santa Fe Avenue and Tulare Street in downtown Fresno. It is adjacent to the=existing Amtrak facility, which is inadequate for present and future passenger needs. The City will acquire the historic station and existing Amtrak facility from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway (BNSF). The project includes renovation of the building's exterior, interior improvements on the first floor, demolition of adjacent structures, additional parking and site improvements. Approximately 5800 squaref et onincluthe e a first floor will be renovated into an Amtrak passenger station, which lobby, baggage area, ticketing counter, restrooms and space for Amtrak operations. No interior improvements will be made to the second floor. • • Attachment III Agreement No.75A0045 A/?
